Description

Also known as the Parian Monument, the Heritage of Cebu Monument features a tableau made by Filipino sculptor Eduardo Castrillo and architects Heradio Español and Ildefonso Santos. The artwork depicts several of Cebu's contributions to Philippine history such as the Battle of Mactan, the inauguration of Sergio Osmeña as President of the Philippines, and the canonization of Pedro Calungsod as saint by the Roman Catholic Church.

Yap Sandiego Ancestral House Review

This 16th century ancestral house is one of the oldest in the Philippines. The house originally belonged to Chinese merchant, Don Juan Yap, whose daughter married the cabeza de barangay of the Parian, Don Mariano San Diego.

Museo Sugbo Review

Description

Museo Sugbo is Cebu's Provincial Museum located in the former Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC). It is housed  in what was once called Cárcel de Cebú, the provincial jail of Cebu. The building was designed in 1869 by Domingo de Escondrillas, the lone architect in Cebu at the time.

Fort San Pedro Review

This military defense structure was built by the Spanish in the 17th century under the command of Miguel López de Legazpi - the first governor of the Captaincy General of the Philippines. The original fort was made of wood while today's structure dates from 1738.

Sirao Flower Farm Review

The picturesque flower farm consists of colorful flower beds in a mountainous barangay. Dubbed the "Mini Amsterdam" of Cebu, it is a popular tourist and photoshoot destination. The gardebs consist mainly of Celosia, but also feature hyacinths, daffodils, and tulips.

Magellan's Cross Review

Description

Magellan's Cross is the preserved tindalo wooden cross which Ferdinand Magellan planted in the city in 1521. It marks the spot Magellan's Cross where the first Christian Filipinos, Rajah Humabon and Queen Juana and about 400 followers were baptized by built Fr. Pedro Valderama. In 1525 to 1740, the Augustinian priests built and opened a shrine for the cross. A hollow cross of tindalo wood was made to encase the original cross which still stands today.

Casa Gorordo Museum Review

Recognized by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines as a National Historical Landmark in 1991, the museum is owned and managed by the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI). RAFI acquired the house from the Gorordo family in 1979 and was renovated, enhanced, and opened to the public as a museum in 1983.
